Program Overview
Medical Professions offer expanding career opportunities in response to the growing needs of a rapidly aging population. The curriculum includes general anatomy and health information as well as CPR, first aid and certified nursing assistant (CNA) certification.

Course Offerings
Introduction to Medical Professions
This course provides basic information and skills for careers in a health care field. Topics include student organizations with parliamentary procedure, medical history, health care systems, qualities of a health care worker, communication and job seeking skills, and legal and ethical issues.
Medical Terminology (Crosswalked to AHSC 1001 Medical Terminology for college credit)
This course gives an overview of medical terms and their root words, prefixes, suffixes, and combining forms, emphasizing pronunciation, spelling, drawings, diagrams and definitions to relate to human anatomy and physiology.
Anatomy and Physiology
This course focuses on anatomical/physiological systems of the body as well as the disease process of those systems and advanced medical terminology.
CNA I
Students develop specific health care competencies in safety, infection control, vital signs, nurse assistant skills, charting and abbreviations.
CNA II
This course offers advanced medical procedures, nurse assistant skills, direct patient care and provides clinical training in area health care facilities.
After successful completion of the class, the student is eligible to take the Nurse Assistant Certification Exam.
COURSE PROGRESSION:
The NWACC RTC Medical Professions Program is a two-year program. The course progression is as follows:
Year 1 (Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores with prior instructor approval)
1st semester, 1st nine weeks Introduction to Medical Professions
1st semester, 2nd nine weeks Medical Terminology
2nd semester Human Anatomy & Physiology
Year 2 (Seniors and Juniors who have successfully completed Year 1)
1st semester CNA I
2nd semester CNA II
Year 1 classes are limited to 25 students per class.
Year 2 classes are limited to 12 students per class.
